AIKEN, S.C. – Savannah River Nuclear Solutions (SRNS) employees recently supported the local community through maintenance and cleanup efforts as part of the United Way’s Project Serve. Project Serve is a community wide day of service where volunteers from local companies spend the day with nonprofits across the CSRA to assist with areas of need. More than 100 SRNS employees volunteered for a day of service and helped complete 26 projects at nine different sites.
These work sites across the CSRA included:
- The Salvation Army Augusta
- Georgia-Carolina Council, Scouting America
- Boys & Girls Club of Greater Augusta
- Heritage Academy
- Lynndale Inc.
- Ronald McDonald House
- The Jessye Norman School of the Arts
- YMCA of Greater Augusta
- YMCA of North Augusta
SRNS United Way Lead Luke Mondeel stated that SRNS volunteers accounted for a quarter of the total Project Serve volunteers making the day of service an exciting success.
“Through the continued involvement and huge turnout by SRNS, we were able to provide support to these United Way partner agencies that they normally wouldn’t be able to afford. Our involvement helps these agencies continue providing their invaluable services to the community,” Mondeel said.
Jennifer Munson, Marketing and Outreach Coordinator at the Jessye Norman School of the Arts stated that the assistance provided by the United Way and partners such as SRNS allow them to provide after-school and summer camp programs to the community.
“Our partnership with the United Way helps us provide a free after school program that gives kids a safe place to go every single day. Through the United Way, SRNS has helped revitalize this space for kids and helped build our recording studio which is just another way that the kids can participate in the arts,” said Munson.
SRNS CEO and President, Jeff Griffin, visited several of the worksites where he encouraged employees and spoke with community members on the company’s commitment to service.
“SRNS’ partnership with the United Way is a critical part of our community involvement. Each year, we are proud to donate not only monetarily, but also through volunteering alongside our partners, learning about our neighbors in the community and cultivating spaces for growth,” Griffin said. “Thank you to the SRNS employees who are committed to serving our community and making each act of service matter.”
Savannah River Nuclear Solutions, a Fluor and HII partnership company, is responsible for the management and operations of the Department of Energy’s Savannah River Site, located near Aiken, South Carolina.
